Job summary

Capitec Bank Ltd. seeks a Senior Platform Engineer to reimagine software delivery from commit to production in an AI-first world.

You will extend the internal developer platform, automate friction, and build guardrails enabling 1,000+ engineers to move faster with reliable, scalable cloud-native pipelines. You will design infrastructure as code, optimize deployment pipelines, and mentor engineers while collaborating across GitHub, AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD.

Qualifications

• Deep experience in platform engineering, site reliability or DevOps.
• At least five years of hands-on experience working in cloud environments.
• Strong experience building infrastructure as code using Terraform, CloudFormation or similar.
• Solid experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or GitHub Actions).
• Strong hands-on experience with containers and orchestration, particularly Kubernetes.
• Experience designing and operating cloud-native systems, including microservices and event-driven architectures.
• Strong scripting or programming capability (Python, Go, Bash, PowerShell).
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, with relevant certifications.
• Strong understanding of networking, security, APIs, databases and distributed systems.
• Ability to clearly explain architecture decisions and the systems built.
• Experience leading or mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement infrastructure as code to enable consistent, repeatable, scalable environments across the cloud platform.
• Build and optimise cloud-native deployment pipelines supporting high-frequency releases.
• Enhance the internal developer platform to improve provisioning of infrastructure and deployment of services.
• Troubleshoot complex platform and performance issues across distributed systems and lead root-cause investigations.
• Contribute to architectural decisions across microservices, event-driven systems and cloud-native patterns.
• Mentor other engineers and raise engineering standards across the team.
