Job summary

Placements24 in Soweto is seeking a Senior Pharmaceutical Chemist to join our formulation and development laboratory. The role focuses on synthesis, characterization, and formulation of APIs and finished dosage forms, leading complex research projects and mentoring junior chemists.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s or Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical or Organic Chemistry with 7+ years of hands-on experience, strong GMP knowledge, and expertise in HPLC, GC, MS, and NMR.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or closely related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of hands-on pharmaceutical chemistry, formulation development, or analytical development.
• Expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, analytical techniques (HPLC, GC, MS, NMR), and characterization of compounds.

Responsibilities

• Lead research and development activities for new pharmaceutical formulations and synthesis of APIs.
• Develop, optimize, and validate analytical methods for testing raw materials, intermediates, and finished products.
• Conduct stability studies and interpret results to determine product shelf-life and storage conditions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex chemical and formulation issues encountered during development and manufacturing.
• Mentor and guide junior chemists, fostering a collaborative and innovative laboratory culture.
