Job summary

Placements24 in Port Elizabeth seeks an experienced Petroleum Geologist to join the exploration team. The role focuses on analyzing geological data to identify hydrocarbon reserves and contribute to exploration strategy within an office-based setting.

You will collaborate with geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and geochemists to build subsurface models and evaluate prospects for drilling targets. A strong background in basin analysis and sedimentary systems is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Geophysics, or a related Earth Science field.
• 5+ years of experience in exploration geology, specifically within Oil & Gas.
• Proficiency in geological interpretation software (Petrel, Kingdom Suite).
• Strong knowledge of sedimentology, stratigraphy, and structural geology.
• Experience with seismic interpretation and well log analysis.

Responsibilities

• Interpret seismic data, well logs, and core samples to define geological structures and reservoir potential.
• Develop detailed subsurface geological models and maps.
• Participate in prospect evaluation and risk assessment for exploration opportunities.
• Collaborate with geophysicists to integrate seismic attributes and geological interpretations.
• Recommend drilling targets and provide geological support during exploration well operations.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for management and joint venture partners.
