Placements24 seeks an Optical Network Specialist to join the Durban infrastructure team. You will deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot the optical fiber network to ensure high-speed, reliable data transmission for telecommunications services.

The role involves hands-on splicing, OTDR testing, and fault resolution, with extensive training and exposure to state-of-the-art optical technologies. On-site collaboration is essential in a dynamic, growing region.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of five years hands-on experience in optical fiber deployment and maintenance.
• Proficient in fiber optic splicing and OTDR, power meters, and visual fault locators.
• Solid understanding of DWDM and FTTx technologies.

Responsibilities

• Install, test, and maintain optical fiber cables, connectors, and equipment.
• Perform fiber optic splicing and testing using OTDR and other instruments.
• Diagnose and resolve fiber optic network faults and impairments.
• Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on optical network components.
• Maintain accurate records of topology, splice points, and test results.
• Collaborate with field technicians and engineers to ensure seamless integration.
