Job summary

Placements24 is recruiting an Optical Network Engineer for our client in Port Elizabeth to design, deploy, and maintain high-speed fiber optic networks. You will lead DWDM/CWDM/PON implementations, integrate optical equipment, and ensure network stability in a growing telecoms landscape.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in a related field and 3-5 years' experience with fiber optics, along with proficiency in OTDR and power meters.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field.
• 3-5 years of experience designing, deploying, and maintaining optical networks.
• Experience with DWDM, CWDM, PON and other optical transmission systems.
• Experience with optical test equipment (OTDR, power meters) and network analysis tools.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement optical network architectures, including DWDM, FTTx, and backbone networks.
• Manage the deployment and integration of optical equipment, such as transceivers, amplifiers, and multiplexers.
• Conduct performance testing and troubleshooting of optical links and network components.
• Monitor network health and proactively address potential issues to ensure service continuity.
• Collaborate with civil works teams for fiber optic cable deployment and splicing operations.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in optical networking technologies and standards.
