Placements24 is seeking an Optical Network Technician for our Randburg-based client to deploy, maintain, and repair fiber optic networks. You will splice fibers, test network integrity, and troubleshoot to keep services running at peak performance.

The role offers hands-on exposure to OTDRs, power meters, and VFLs, with opportunities to work across underground, aerial, and indoor installations while following safety protocols in a dynamic telecoms environment in Gauteng.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; specialized fiber optics or telecom certification preferred.
• At least 2 years' experience with fiber optic networks.
• Proficient in splicing, termination, and testing techniques.

About the Role

You will be responsible for everything from splicing fiber to testing network integrity, playing a key part in the physical infrastructure that powers modern communication. Key Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and splice fiber optic cables in various environments, including underground, aerial, and indoor installations.


• Perform testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks using specialized equipment (e.g., OTDR, light meters).


• Diagnose and repair faults in the fiber optic network infrastructure, ensuring minimal service disruption.


• Read and interpret fiber optic network designs, schematics, and blueprints.


• Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on fiber optic equipment and infrastructure.


• Document all installation, testing, and repair activities accurately.

Requirements
