Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Optical Network Technician for our Randburg-based client to deploy, maintain, and repair fiber optic networks. You will splice fibers, test network integrity, and troubleshoot to keep services running at peak performance.

The role offers hands-on exposure to OTDRs, power meters, and VFLs, with opportunities to work across underground, aerial, and indoor installations while following safety protocols in a dynamic telecoms environment in Gauteng.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; specialized fiber optics or telecom certification preferred.
• At least 2 years' experience with fiber optic networks.
• Proficient in splicing, termination, and testing techniques.
• Experience with OTDRs, power meters, and VFLs.
• Knowledge of fiber types, connectors, and industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and splice fiber in various environments.
• Test and troubleshoot fiber optic networks with specialized equipment.
• Diagnose faults and minimize service disruption.
• Read and interpret fiber optic designs, schematics, blueprints.
• Document installation, testing, and repair activities.
