Placements24 in Durban is seeking a diligent Fiber Optic Technician to join our operations team. You will install, splice, test, and maintain fiber networks for residential and business customers, ensuring reliable connectivity in the region.

This hands-on role requires precise workmanship, familiarity with OTDRs, fusion splicers, and schematics, plus a valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the service area.

Qualifications

Proven experience as Fiber Optic Technician or similar.
Proficiency in splicing, testing and troubleshooting.
Experience with fusion splicers and OTDR equipment.
Ability to read technical documentation and schematics.

Responsibilities

Install, terminate, and splice fiber optic cables in aerial, underground and indoor environments.
Perform testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks using OTDR, power meters and VFLs.
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings and splicing schematics.
Diagnose and repair faults to minimize downtime.
Ensure installations meet standards and customer satisfaction.
Maintain records of work performed, test results and installation details.
