Placements24 in Bloemfontein is seeking a highly skilled Optical Network Engineer to design, implement, and maintain our high-capacity fiber networks across the region. You will contribute to planning, deployment of new routes, and ensuring reliability of our optical infrastructure.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Telecommunications and at least five years’ experience with DWDM, GPON, and fiber splicing, plus hands-on use of OTDRs and test gear.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in optical network design and implementation.
• Proficiency with DWDM, GPON, and fiber splicing techniques.
• Experience with optical test equipment and monitoring tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, plan, and deploy optical fiber networks including route selection and splicing.
• Manage and maintain fiber optic infrastructure with minimal downtime.
• Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies for new deployments.
• Perform testing of optical links using OTDR and power meters.
• Collaborate with construction teams and vendors to meet timelines and standards.
• Document network layouts, configurations, and performance metrics.
