Placements24 seeks a highly experienced Senior Optical Network Engineer to design, implement, and maintain high-capacity optical transport networks in Randburg. You will ensure reliability, scalability, and performance across Gauteng, working with DWDM, OTN, SONET/SDH technologies and leading vendors.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Telecommunications and at least 6 years of experience in optical networks, with hands-on testing and NMS proficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in optical network engineering.
• Strong understanding of optical transmission principles, including fiber types, wavelengths, and signal integrity.
• Hands-on experience with DWDM, OTN, and SONET/SDH technologies.
• Proficiency with optical test equipment and diagnostic tools.
• Familiarity with network management systems (NMS) and protocols.

Responsibilities

• Design, plan, and implement optical network solutions, including DWDM, OTN, and Ethernet transport.
• Configure and maintain optical network equipment from leading vendors (e.g., Nokia, Ciena, Infinera).
• Monitor network performance, troubleshoot optical transmission issues, and implement corrective actions.
• Perform capacity planning and network upgrades to meet growing bandwidth demands.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on network integration, deployment, and service activation.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for optical network designs and configurations.
