Placements24 is seeking a Senior Operations Manager to oversee mining operations near Upington, driving safety, productivity, and strategic delivery. You will lead multidisciplinary teams across extraction to processing and partner with maintenance, engineering, and HR.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Mining Engineering or related field, 12+ years in mining operations, and experience with open-pit and/or underground methods.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of progressive mining operations management experience with leadership track record.
• Experience across open-pit and/or underground mining methods is required.
• Strong mine planning, health and safety, and environmental regulation knowledge.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly accomplished and strategic Senior Operations Manager to oversee their significant mining operations near Upington . This leadership role is pivotal in driving operational excellence, ensuring safety, maximizing productivity, and achieving strategic business objectives. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of the mining process, from extraction to initial processing, leading multidisciplinary teams, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance. This is a key leadership position within a company committed to sustainable and efficient resource extraction in the mining sector .

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all day-to-day mining operations, including planning, resource allocation, and production execution.
• Ensure the implementation and strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
• Develop and manage operational budgets, controlling costs and optimizing resource utilization to achieve financial targets.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of operational staff, including mine supervisors, geologists, and engineers.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, efficiency, and asset reliability.
• Liaise with other departments, including maintenance, engineering, and human resources, to ensure seamless operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related technical field.
• A Master's degree or MBA is highly advantageous.
• Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in mining operations management, with a proven track record of leadership.
• Extensive experience across various mining methods (open-pit and/or underground).
• Strong understanding of mine planning, processing, health and safety, and environmental regulations in the mining industry .
• Demonstrated success in managing large operational budgets and driving cost efficiencies.
• Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills.
