Role Purpose
The Senior Operations Business Analyst is responsible for defining, refining, and optimizing core operational processes, systems, and controls across the high-volume Momentum Wealth operations functions. This role focuses on optimising end-to-end processing environments, automating transaction pipelines, and strengthening daily reconciliation and administration workflows across both local and offshore asset classes.
A critical imperative of this role is designing robust, automated operational workflow engines and oversight frameworks, exception-handling mechanisms, and audit-ready management controls to ensure absolute precision, regulatory compliance, and proactive risk mitigation across all operational units.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Finance, Information Systems, Business Science, or equivalent quantitative discipline.
- Certifications: Business Analysis preferred; certifications in Business Process Management (BPM) tools are an advantage.
- Domain Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst within South African Wealth Management, LISP, Asset Management, or Investment Administration operations.
- Specialized Functional Knowledge:
- Demonstrated expertise with operational workflow orchestration tools, BPMN process mapping, and automated task queue configurations.
- Proven track record in high-volume transaction processing, portfolio rebalancing engines, and fund administration workflows.
- Deep understanding of cash management systems, automated reconciliation tools, and complex ledger matching principles.
- Strong working knowledge of local and international market settlement conventions, foreign exchange regulations (SARB), and global custodian operating models.
- Proven expertise in operational risk management, automated exception management, and governance frameworks.
Duties & Responsibilities
Core Operational Workflow & Functional Requirements
- Workflow Automation & Orchestration: Analyse, design, and configure end-to-end operational workflow engines, defining automated routing rules, task queues, approval hierarchies, and dynamic hand-offs across operational desks.
- Transaction Execution & Order Lifecycle Management: Analyse, refine, and automate high-volume transaction execution, order aggregation, batch allocation, and cut-off management workflows to drive straight-through processing (STP) across product lines.
- Valuation, Pricing & Asset Administration: Map end-to-end pricing validation and asset administration processes to ensure accurate, timely valuation delivery, lifecycle event processing, and corporate action execution across multi-asset portfolios.
- Cash Flow, Banking & Reconciliation Processing: Streamline multi-currency cash management, automated bank reconciliations, sweep mechanisms, and failed-trade resolution frameworks to eliminate manual processing bottlenecks and cash breaks.
- Portfolio & Account Administration: Design functional requirements for complex account administration, fee calculations, multi-currency reporting, foreign exchange execution, and third-party custodian interface flows for both onshore and offshore structures.
- Service Capacity Analytics & Digital Model Transition: Design and refine service capacity data dashboards and operational metrics to track resourcing efficiency, throughput, and capacity utilization as the operations domain transitions toward a digital operating model.
Operational Oversight, Governance & Workflow Controls
- Design and implement comprehensive operational oversight frameworks, workflow exception dashboards, and dynamic key risk indicator (KRI) monitoring systems to proactively flag processing failures, calculation variances, and trade breaks.
- Establish automated audit trails, maker-checker authorization matrices within workflow tools, SLA escalation protocols, and compliance trackers across internal operational desks and external platform partners.
Change Delivery, Systems & Testing
- Bridge the gap between Operations, IT development teams, and external technology vendors to translate operational pain points into detailed User Stories, Business Requirement Documents (BRDs), Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) diagrams, and Functional Specifications.
- Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT), test script execution, and operational readiness sign-offs for platform upgrades, migration projects, workflow engine integrations, and automated control rollouts.
- Conduct root-cause analyses on operational incidents and trade failures, implementing systemic preventative controls to reduce operational risk.
Competencies
- Workflow Efficiency & Straight-Through Processing (STP): Measurable reduction in cycle times, manual interventions, and operational hand-offs via automated workflow orchestration.
- Exception & Oversight Control: Successful delivery of real-time operational oversight dashboards and control monitoring frameworks.
- Project Delivery & Quality: High-quality, timely business requirement specifications for prioritized operational and service requests, subject to agreed capacity buffers, alongside successful UAT execution cycles with minimal post-implementation defects.
- Regulatory & Audit Alignment: 100% compliance of re-engineered workflows with FSCA, FICA, POPIA, and relevant exchange control requirements.
