Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Network Security Engineer to join our client’s Bloemfontein team. The role focuses on safeguarding the network infrastructure against evolving cyber threats, with responsibilities spanning design, deployment, and ongoing management of security controls.

You will lead threat analysis, incident response, and security governance initiatives, collaborating with IT to ensure robust protection and high availability in a demanding telecom environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field.
• Minimum of 7 years in network security engineering.
• Proven expertise with enterprise-grade firewalls (Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, Fortinet).
• Strong IDS/IPS, VPN, and NAC knowledge; SIEM experience (Splunk/QRadar).
• Security certifications such as CISSP, CCNA Security, or CEH are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage network security solutions (firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, WAFs).
• Monitor traffic for threats using SIEM and security tools.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
• Develop and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures.
• Respond to incidents, perform forensic analysis, and remediate.
• Maintain security infrastructure for high availability and performance.
• Collaborate with IT to integrate security into network design.
• Stay updated on threats and mitigation techniques.
• Provide security awareness training and document incident response plans.
