Placements24 is seeking a Senior Network Security Engineer to join our client’s Bloemfontein team. The role focuses on safeguarding the network infrastructure against evolving cyber threats, with responsibilities spanning design, deployment, and ongoing management of security controls.

You will lead threat analysis, incident response, and security governance initiatives, collaborating with IT to ensure robust protection and high availability in a demanding telecom environment.

Qualificações

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field.
• Minimum of 7 years in network security engineering.
• Proven expertise with enterprise-grade firewalls (Palo Alto, Cisco ASA, Fortinet).
• Strong IDS/IPS, VPN, and NAC knowledge; SIEM experience (Splunk/QRadar).
• Security certifications such as CISSP, CCNA Security, or CEH are highly desirable.

About the Role

Our client, a significant entity within the South African telecommunications sector, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Network Security Engineer to join their operations in Bloemfontein , Free State . This role is paramount in safeguarding the company's network infrastructure and sensitive data against evolving cyber threats. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in network security technologies, threat analysis, and incident response. Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage network security solutions, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and WAFs.
• Monitor network traffic for security threats and anomalies using SIEM and other security tools.
• Conduct regular security vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
• Develop and enforce network security policies, standards, and procedures.
• Respond to security incidents, conduct forensic analysis, and implement remediation actions.
• Manage and maintain security infrastructure, ensuring high availability and optimal performance.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), VPN technologies, and network access control (NAC).
• Experience with SIEM tools (e.g., Splunk, QRadar) and security monitoring.
• Understanding of common cyberattack vectors and mitigation strategies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and incident response skills.
• Relevant security certifications such as CISSP, CCNA Security, or CEH are highly desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
