Placements24 is seeking a Senior Network Engineer with a specialization in Cloud Security for a fully remote role in South Africa. You will design and secure cloud networks across AWS, Azure, and GCP, and collaborate with security, DevOps, and application teams.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in network engineering with cloud security, strong TCP/IP, BGP/OSPF, and hands-on experience with cloud networking services and security tools. CISSP/CCNP Security or equivalent is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage secure network infrastructure in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Develop and enforce network security policies, standards, and procedures.
• Configure and manage network security tools, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and WAFs.
• Monitor network traffic for security threats and anomalies, and respond to incidents.
• Troubleshoot network connectivity and performance issues, ensuring high availability.
• Collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams to integrate security into CI/CD pipelines.
• Implement and manage network segmentation and access control mechanisms.
• Stay current with emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and technologies.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation and diagrams.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior network and security personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in network engineering, with a strong focus on cloud security.
• Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing secure cloud network architectures.
• In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), switching, and firewalls.
• Hands-on experience with cloud networking services (e.g., VPC, Transit Gateway, Load Balancers) and security tools.
• Familiarity with security frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001).
• Experience with network monitoring and analysis tools.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, essential for effective remote teamwork.
• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CCNA, CCNP Security, or cloud provider security certifications are highly desirable.
