Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mining Ventilation Engineer to lead ventilation design, surveys and modelling at an underground operation in Centurion, Gauteng. The role focuses on safe, efficient airflows, cooling and dust control while aligning with regulatory requirements.

You will apply VENTSIM and other tools to model networks, assess heat stress, and guide planning teams. A strong engineering background and SA mining exposure are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with ventilation specialization.
• 7+ years of experience in mine ventilation engineering, preferably underground operations.
• Pr.Eng. designation or eligibility is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with South African mining environmental challenges.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimize mine ventilation systems, including auxiliary ventilation, dust suppression and cooling.
• Conduct ventilation surveys, airflow measurements and air quality monitoring underground.
• Develop and utilize mine ventilation network models (e.g., VENTSIM) to predict airflow and conditions.
• Assess heat stress and thermal comfort in deep underground mines.
• Develop dust control strategies to meet regulatory requirements and protect worker health.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations related to mine ventilation in Centurion.
• Provide technical guidance and training to ventilation officers and mine personnel.
• Collaborate with planning and operations to integrate ventilation into design and production schedules.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, ventilation plans and procedures.
