The role demands 7+ years in mine planning and design, a Mining Engineering degree, and proficiency with Deswik or Vulcan. You will mentor juniors and shape production strategy.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly proficient Senior Mining Engineer to lead their mine planning division at a major PGM (Platinum Group Metals) operation in Klerksdorp . This role is integral to developing and optimizing long-term and short-term mine plans, ensuring efficient extraction of resources while adhering to stringent safety and environmental standards. You will work closely with geology, survey, and operations teams to translate geological models into practical, achievable mining schedules. This is a key leadership position within a significant mining hub in the North West province, offering the chance to influence operational strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed long-term mine plans and schedules for underground operations.


• Produce short-term operational plans, including production targets, development sequencing, and equipment allocation.


• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new mining projects and extensions.


• Optimize mine design parameters, including stope dimensions, ventilation, and ground support.


• Collaborate with geotechnical engineers to ensure mine stability and safety.


• Train and mentor junior mining engineers and planning personnel.

Requirements

• BSc or BEng in Mining Engineering.


• Minimum of 7 years of experience in mine planning and design, preferably in UG2 or Merensky reef mining.


• Proficiency with mine planning software such as Deswik, Vulcan, or similar.


• Strong understanding of underground mining methods , economics, and operational constraints.


• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.


• Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and manage complex planning projects.
