Our client seeks a highly skilled and forward-thinking Senior Mine Planning Engineer to join their operations in Rustenburg . This role is crucial for developing and optimizing short-term and long-term mine plans that ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective resource extraction. You will leverage advanced modeling software and your deep understanding of mining methodologies to contribute to strategic decision-making. This position offers a unique blend of office-based strategic planning and potential on-site engagement, providing a comprehensive view of the mining lifecycle. We are looking for an individual with a proven track record in mine design and planning, eager to contribute to a leading platinum group metals producer in the North West province.
Develop and maintain detailed short-term and long-term mine plans, considering geological, geotechnical, and economic factors. Utilize mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, MineSight) to design open pit or underground mine layouts , including scheduling, haul roads, and infrastructure. Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new mining projects or expansions. Optimize mine sequences and production targets to maximize resource recovery and minimize costs. Collaborate with operations, geology, and engineering departments to ensure plans are practical and achievable. Monitor production performance against plans and implement corrective actions as needed.
BSc or BEng in Mining Engineering or a related discipline. Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in mine planning and design, preferably within open pit or underground mining operations. Strong proficiency with industry-standard mine planning and modeling software. In-depth knowledge of mining methods, equipment, and operational constraints. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Experience with project management and leading planning initiatives is highly desirable.
