Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer for a major mining operation in the Polokwane region. The role focuses on mine planning, design, production management and implementation of innovative mining technologies to optimize extraction and safety.

You will lead a team of mining professionals, drive project development, and ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental standards in a demanding Limpopo environment.

Qualifications

• BEng/BSc in Mining Engineering.
• Pr Eng registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
• 10+ years in metalliferous mining, with at least 5 years in a senior role.
• Experience in mine planning, design and production management.
• Proficiency with mine planning software (Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac).
• Strong leadership, communication and decision-making skills.
• Willingness to reside near or commute to Polokwane and work full-time.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement short-term and long-term mine plans and production schedules for underground or open-pit operations.
• Oversee daily mining operations including drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling to meet productivity and cost targets.
• Conduct mine design and optimization studies, including stope design, ventilation planning, and ground support strategies.
• Ensure adherence to health, safety and environmental regulations and best practices at the site.
• Lead and mentor a team of mining engineers, supervisors and operators.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new projects or expansions.
• Utilize Deswik, Vulcan and Surpac for design, scheduling and reporting.
• Collaborate with geologists and metallurgists to optimize resource extraction.
• Monitor performance, identify improvements and implement corrective actions.
• Prepare technical reports, budgets and management reviews.

Our client, a prominent mining group with significant operations in the Polokwane, Limpopo region, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mining Engineer with expertise in metalliferous mining operations. This challenging role requires a seasoned professional capable of managing complex mining projects, optimizing extraction processes, and ensuring the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency. You will be responsible for mine planning, design, production management, and the implementation of innovative mining technologies. The successful candidate will lead a team of mining professionals, contribute to strategic mine development, and ensure compliance with all relevant mining regulations and environmental standards. This is a key leadership position within a major mining enterprise in the Limpopo province.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• BEng/BSc in Mining Engineering.

• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in metalliferous mining operations, with at least 5 years in a senior engineering or supervisory role.
• Proven experience in mine planning, design, and production management, preferably in the Limpopo region.
• Demonstrated expertise in underground or open-pit mining methods and associated technologies.
• Proficiency in mine planning and design software is essential.
• Strong understanding of mine health and safety legislation and environmental management practices.
• Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage teams and drive performance in a demanding operational environment.
• Willingness to reside near or commute to the mine site in the Polokwane area and work full-time.
