Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• At least 10 years of experience in metallurgical process engineering, with base metals or precious metals focus.
• Strong expertise in process simulation, statistical analysis, and data interpretation.
• Proven track record of implementing significant process improvements in mining.
• Solid knowledge of mineral processing unit operations and their integration.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and leadership skills.
• Professional registration (e.g., Pr.Eng) desirable in SA.

About the Role

This senior role demands a deep understanding of metallurgical principles and process optimization techniques to enhance efficiency, recovery rates, and product quality. The Principal Process Engineer will be instrumental in identifying and implementing innovative solutions, troubleshooting complex operational issues, and ensuring the sustainable and cost-effective performance of their processing plants. This position offers a leadership opportunity within a significant mining group, contributing directly to operational excellence and strategic development.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, optimization, and troubleshooting of complex metallurgical processes, including comminution, flotation, leaching, and refining.
• Develop and implement process improvements to increase recovery, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
• Conduct detailed metallurgical test work and pilot plant trials to validate process changes and new technologies.
• Utilize process simulation software (e.g., HSC Chemistry, JKSimMet) to model and analyze plant performance.
• Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to metallurgical engineers and plant personnel.
• Investigate operational issues and deviations, developing and implementing effective corrective actions.
• Collaborate with research and development teams to evaluate and pilot emerging metallurgical technologies.
• Ensure all process designs and operations adhere to stringent safety, environmental, and quality standards.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports, feasibility studies, and recommendations for capital projects.

Requirements

• A Master's degree or PhD in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in metallurgical process engineering, with a strong focus on base metals or precious metals processing.
• Proven expertise in process simulation, statistical analysis, and data interpretation.
• Demonstrated success in identifying and implementing significant process improvements in a mining environment.
• Strong knowledge of various mineral processing unit operations and their integration.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making capabilities.
• Superb communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders.
• Experience working in mining operations in regions like Limpopo is considered an asset.
