Job summary

Placements24 seeks a seasoned Senior Mining Engineer to join the Durban-based operations team. You will oversee and optimize daily mining activities, ensuring safety, efficiency, and productivity targets are met while planning and executing underground or open-pit operations.

You will collaborate with site management and geotechnical engineers, lead production planning, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives, with the flexibility to work partly from home or a satellite office to balance

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 7+ years of experience in mine operations with progressive responsibility.
• Strong knowledge of mining methods (conventional, cut-and-fill, block caving, open pit).
• Proficiency in mine planning software (Deswik, Surpac, AutoCAD).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience in managing budgets and operational costs.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor short- and long-term mine production plans.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
• Supervise operational teams including miners, operators, and supervisors.
• Conduct feasibility studies, cost analyses, and audits for improvements.
• Oversee equipment utilization to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
• Implement new mining technologies and techniques for safety and efficiency.
