Placements24 seeks a Senior Mine Geologist to join the Pretoria team, focusing on geological characterization of ore bodies, resource estimation, and support for mine planning. You will identify exploration targets, perform detailed mapping, and ensure robust resource models across operations.

The role requires strong structural geology knowledge, sedimentology, and proficiency with Leapfrog Geo, Micromine, or Vulcan.

Qualifications

• Honours Degree in Geology or related Earth Science.
• Master's degree is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in mine geology, exploration geology, or resource geology, preferably in South Africa.
• Proficiency in geological modeling and resource estimation techniques.
• Experience with Leapfrog Geo, Micromine, or Vulcan.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geological mapping, sampling, and data collection for exploration and resource definition projects.
• Interpret geological data, including core logging, geophysical surveys, and geochemical analyses.
• Develop and manage 3D geological models using Leapfrog, Micromine, or Vulcan.
• Perform resource estimations and contribute to JORC/NI 43-101 compliant reports.
• Provide geological input for mine planning, geotechnical assessments, and grade control.
• Collaborate with mine operations to ensure efficient extraction and grade control.
• Identify and evaluate potential new exploration targets and design exploration programs.
• Supervise junior geologists and field technicians with mentorship and technical guidance.
• Ensure adherence to safety and environmental policies in field activities.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mine Geologist to join their exploration and resource definition team in Pretoria, Gauteng . This critical role focuses on the geological characterization of ore bodies, resource estimation, and providing essential geological support to mine planning and operations. You will play a key part in identifying and evaluating new exploration targets, conducting detailed geological mapping, and ensuring the integrity of resource models. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of structural geology, sedimentology, and various deposit types, coupled with proficiency in geological modeling software. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to significant discoveries and resource growth within a major mining group, based in the administrative capital of South Africa.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct geological mapping, sampling, and data collection for exploration and resource definition projects.

• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to remote sites.


• Good communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively in a team environment.


• Professional Geoscientist (Pr.Sci.Nat) designation or eligibility is an advantage.


• Experience with geochemical and geophysical data interpretation.
