Placements24 seeks a Senior Metallurgist to drive optimization of mineral processing operations in Stellenbosch. You will lead research, implement new technologies, and troubleshoot metallurgical challenges across hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy domains.

The role requires 7+ years in mining metallurgy, strong analytic and problem-solving abilities, and collaboration with operations teams to improve recovery and product quality.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in mineral processing and metallurgy, with a strong focus on the mining sector.
• Proficiency in metallurgical accounting, process modeling, and simulation software.
• Experience with various commodities and processing techniques.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Optimize existing mineral processing circuits (e.g., crushing, grinding, flotation, leaching) to maximize recovery and minimize costs.
• Conduct laboratory and pilot-scale test work to evaluate new processing methodologies and reagents.
• Analyze metallurgical data, identify process bottlenecks, and implement solutions for improvement.
• Provide technical expertise and support to plant operations personnel.
• Develop and maintain process control strategies to ensure consistent product quality.
• Stay abreast of technological advancements in metallurgy and mineral processing.
