Job summary

Placements24 in Sandton, Gauteng, is seeking a seasoned Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC systems to lead design, specification, and project management for commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings.

The role requires a BEng/BSc in Mechanical Engineering, ECSA Pr Eng registration, 7–10 years of HVAC design and project management experience, and proficiency with Revit MEP, AutoCAD, IES VE, and eQUEST; strong leadership and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• BEng or BSc in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
• ECSA registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) is essential.
• A minimum of 7–10 years of HVAC design and project management experience.
• In-depth knowledge of HVAC system design, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
• Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) integration is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings.
• Prepare detailed HVAC designs, schematics, calculations, and specifications.
• Select appropriate HVAC equipment and components, ensuring compliance with performance and efficiency requirements.
• Manage HVAC engineering aspects of projects from conceptual design through to construction and commissioning.
• Conduct energy modeling and analysis to optimize system performance and reduce operational costs.
• Ensure compliance with relevant building codes, standards (e.g., SANS), and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate effectively with architects, electrical engineers, structural engineers, and project managers.
• Perform site inspections during construction to verify installation and address technical queries.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mechanical engineers and CAD technicians.
• Stay abreast of the latest HVAC technologies and best practices.
