Job summary

Placements24 client, a premier engineering consultancy specializing in building services, seeks a Senior HVAC Design Engineer to join their Pretoria, Gauteng team. This hybrid role blends in-office collaboration with remote work, focusing on designing sophisticated heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems for commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience specifically in HVAC design.
• Proficiency in HVAC design software: AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Trane Trace, HAP.
• Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and psychrometrics.
• Knowledge of building codes and standards (SANS, ASHRAE) and sustainability principles (LEED).
• Experience with hybrid work environments and collaboration tools.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Pr.Eng registration with ECSA is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of HVAC systems for various building types.
• Perform load calculations, system sizing, and equipment selection for heating, cooling, ventilation, and air distribution.
• Develop detailed HVAC design drawings, schematics, specifications, and cost estimates using industry-standard software.
• Conduct energy modeling and analysis to optimize system efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
• Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and project managers throughout the design process.
• Oversee the review of contractor submittals and respond to RFIs during the construction phase.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers on the team.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget, meeting client expectations.
