Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer for our client in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. You will lead mechanical design projects from concept through detailed drawings, perform simulations, mentor junior designers, and collaborate with engineers and manufacturing teams to ensure feasible and manufacturable solutions.

The role demands a strong grasp of CAD tools and materials/process knowledge to deliver robust industrial systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design.
• Expert proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, Inventor).
• Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering principles.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, systems, and assemblies using advanced CAD software.
• Create detailed 2D and 3D models, drawings, and specifications for manufacturing.
• Perform stress analysis, thermal analysis, and simulations to validate designs.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams for feasibility and manufacturability.
• Oversee and mentor junior designers and drafters.
• Conduct design reviews and ensure compliance with standards and client requirements.
• Troubleshoot design issues and propose solutions.
• Manage design documentation and revision control.
• Stay updated with new design tools and best practices.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and standards.
