Placements24 invites a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to Bloemfontein to lead the design of heavy mining equipment. You will drive concept-to-production cycles, leverage SolidWorks or Inventor for 3D modeling, and run FEA simulations to ensure performance and safety.

The role requires a strong materials science background, 8+ years in mechanical design, and registration with ECSA. On-site position with growth opportunities in a leading mining technology company.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr.Eng or Pr.Tech.Eng).
• 8+ years in mechanical design, preferably mining machinery.
• Proficient in 3D CAD and FEA tools; materials & processes knowledge.
• Experience with hydraulics/pneumatics is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead design for new mining equipment from concept to production.
• Create 3D models and detailed drawings using CAD software.
• Perform calculations/FEA to validate stress, fatigue, and thermal performance.
• Select materials and manufacturing methods for durability and cost.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, procurement, and testing teams.
• Maintain BOMs and technical specifications documentation.
• Troubleshoot design issues during prototyping and field use.
• Stay current with mining design trends and safety standards.
