Placements24 in Kimberley, Northern Cape, seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced industrial machinery. You will conceptualize, prototype, and refine mechanical systems, ensuring safety, reliability, and performance across projects.

The role involves creating robust 3D models and detailed drawings, performing stress and thermal analyses, and collaborating with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to deliver fully integrated systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5-7 years experience in mechanical design and development, preferably in industrial automation or heavy machinery.
• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and CAE tools (ANSYS, MATLAB/Simulink).
• Strong understanding of material science, mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test new mechanical components and systems for industrial machinery.
• Create detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
• Perform stress analysis, thermal analysis, and dynamic simulations to ensure design integrity.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical designs into complete systems.
• Develop and maintain BOMs and technical documentation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical design issues during prototyping and production.
• Research and evaluate new materials and technologies to improve performance and cost-effectiveness.
• Conduct design reviews and present findings to stakeholders.
• Ensure all designs comply with industry standards and regulations.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
