Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Johannesburg to lead the concept, design, and validation of advanced automotive systems. You will drive development from concept to production, ensuring quality, performance, and safety while collaborating with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams.

The role demands a strong background in materials, manufacturing processes, and simulation tools (CATIA/SolidWorks, ANSYS/Abaqus).

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
7+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design engineering, automotive focus.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (CATIA/SolidWorks/AutoCAD) and CAE tools (ANSYS/Abaqus).
Understanding of manufacturing processes (injection molding, stamping, casting, machining).
Experience with product development methodologies and DFM/DFA principles.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Lead design and development of complex mechanical components and assemblies using CAD software.
Perform stress, thermal, and vibration analyses to validate designs.
Collaborate with electrical, software and manufacturing teams for integration.
Create and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, and technical specs.
Drive design reviews and provide constructive feedback to meet project goals.
Mentor junior engineers and support team development.
Stay current with mechanical engineering advances and manufacturing technologies.
