Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Materials Engineer to join a leading infrastructure development company in Vereeniging, Gauteng. You will oversee material testing, QA/QC plans, and provide expert guidance on material selection to support major civil projects.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Materials or Civil Engineering, 7+ years in construction materials, and registration with ECSA is desirable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Materials or Civil Engineering required.
• Master's degree is a plus.
• ECSA registration is highly desirable.
• Minimum 7 years' experience in materials engineering within construction.
• Strong knowledge of concrete, asphalt, soil and steel properties.
• Experience with material testing procedures and equipment.
• Familiarity with SANS standards and other specs.
• Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel to project sites around Vereeniging.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement QA/QC plans for construction projects.
• Oversee testing of materials such as concrete, asphalt, soil, and steel.
• Interpret test results and provide recommendations for material acceptance or rejection.
• Conduct site investigations to assess material performance and identify potential issues.
• Advise project teams on material selection and appropriate use of materials.
• Ensure compliance with project specs, SANS, and international codes.
• Manage materials testing laboratories and ensure calibration of equipment.
• Investigate material failures and develop solutions.
• Prepare technical reports on material properties and testing results; mentor juniors.
