Placements24 is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer to lead the construction materials testing laboratory in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. You will provide expert technical consultation on aggregates, concrete, asphalt, soils and other construction materials, mentoring staff and liaising with clients and contractors.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Materials or Civil Engineering, with 7+ years in materials testing; a Master's is advantageous and Pr Eng/Pr Tech Eng with ECSA is desirable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Materials or Civil Engineering required.
• Master's degree is advantageous.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Pr Tech Eng registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in construction materials testing and engineering.
• Strong knowledge of material properties and performance in construction applications.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills.
• Experience in project management and client liaison.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of the construction materials testing laboratory.
• Conduct advanced testing and analysis of aggregates, concrete, asphalt, soils and other construction materials.
• Interpret test results, prepare detailed technical reports, and advise on material usage and compliance.
• Ensure testing adheres to SANS, ASTM and other standards.
• Develop QA/QC procedures for laboratory testing.
• Provide expert technical advice to clients, engineers, architects and contractors.
• Mentor junior engineers and laboratory staff.
• Manage calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Assist in proposals and tenders for materials testing services.
• Stay updated on advancements in construction materials technology.
