Job summary

SGS South Africa, Matrolab Division, seeks a Senior Materials Tester to assist the Supervisor/Lab Manager with on-site and laboratory tasks, including preparation, sampling, and testing of soils, asphalt, seals, concrete and aggregates.

The role requires integrity, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to maintain high lab standards and safety. Responsibilities include field and lab work, timely reporting, and operational support across sites.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in English reading, writing and speaking.
• Experience with laboratory testing and quality control.
• Ability to interpret test methods and perform calculations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and/or perform tests as competent, following prescribed methods.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organize equipment after tasks.
• Adhere to SGS quality and safety requirements.
• Report deviations, irregularities and non-conformances promptly.
• Carry out field and laboratory work including sampling and calculations.
• Complete timesheets daily and manage workload within the team.
• Maintain discipline within the department.
