Placements24 is seeking a skilled Legal Counsel in Mossel Bay to lead civil litigation, manage pre-litigation to trial, and advise on risk mitigation. The role focuses on disputes, with collaboration across business units and external counsel in a hybrid office/remote setup.

The ideal candidate holds SA High Court admission, 5–7 years of litigation experience, strong advocacy, and excellent research and communication skills. Industry experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with minimum 5–7 years of dedicated litigation experience.
• Strong understanding of civil procedure, evidence law and relevant substantive areas.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with ability to argue complex legal issues clearly.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple cases, and meet strict deadlines.
• Hybrid work experience balancing office-based duties with remote flexibility.
• Industry-specific experience (e.g., Construction, Maritime, Employment) is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of civil litigation from pleadings to settlement negotiations.
• Represent the company in court, mediations, arbitrations, and other forums.
• Conduct legal research to develop effective litigation strategies.
• Advise business units on potential legal risks and dispute avoidance.
• Coordinate with external counsel and oversee costs of litigation.
• Investigate disputes and prepare case assessments.
• Ensure compliance with court rules, deadlines, and ethics.
• Help develop litigation best practices and policies.
