Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Soweto, Gauteng team. You will design, develop, and deploy microservices in Java using Spring Boot, building scalable backend services and RESTful APIs for fintech applications.

You will work with AWS/Azure/GCP and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), implement CI/CD pipelines, and collaborate across product, frontend and QA to deliver secure, high-quality software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience with a strong focus on Java.
• Proven experience with Spring Boot and microservices architectures.
• Designing RESTful APIs and scalable backend services.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Proficiency with build tools (Maven/Gradle) and Git.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy scalable microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs following industry best practices.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-tested code.
• Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers and QA to deliver high-quality software.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for automated builds, tests and deployments.
• Work with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Optimize performance, identify bottlenecks and implement solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and promote quality standards.
• Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to architectural decisions.
