Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Principal Industrial Safety Engineer to lead safety strategies for a major mining operation near Rustenburg. The role focuses on risk identification, mitigation planning, and regulatory compliance across sites.

You will mentor teams and drive a strong safety culture embedded in daily operations. The ideal candidate has 10+ years in industrial safety, NOSA/NEBOSH desirable, and deep knowledge of SA legislation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in OHS, Engineering or related discipline is required.
• NOSA/NEBOSH certifications are highly desirable.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive industrial safety experience, with mining/heavy manufacturing background.
• Extensive knowledge of South African safety legislation and best practices.
• Proven track record developing and implementing robust safety management systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement advanced industrial safety programs across multiple sites.
• Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments (HIRA) and JSA for operations.
• Ensure compliance with SA and international safety legislation and standards (e.g., OHS Act).
• Investigate incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Deliver high‑quality safety training for all employee levels.
• Oversee safety management systems such as ISO 45001.
• Collaborate with management to integrate safety into business processes.
• Conduct safety audits and inspections; identify hazards and improvements.
• Promote proactive safety culture through leadership and engagement.
• Advise on design and engineering of safe facilities and equipment.
