About the Role

Our client, a major mining corporation with extensive operations across South Africa, is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Senior Health and Safety Manager. This critical role involves overseeing and implementing comprehensive safety programs to ensure the well-being of all personnel within their mining facilities. The successful candidate will lead a team of safety professionals, drive a robust safety culture, and ensure compliance with all national and international health and safety standards. This position is based in Benoni, Gauteng , a key industrial hub.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage the company's health and safety strategy and policies across all mining operations.
• Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
• Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Develop and deliver health and safety training programs to all levels of staff.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and industry best practices (e.g., Mine Health and Safety Act).
• Manage the occupational health surveillance program for employees.
• Promote a proactive safety culture through engagement, communication, and visible leadership.
• Develop and manage emergency response plans and procedures.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to health and safety and report to senior management.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies and external stakeholders on health and safety matters.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
• A Master's degree is advantageous.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in a health and safety management role within the mining industry.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing effective safety management systems (e.g., OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001).
• In-depth knowledge of South African mining health and safety legislation and regulations.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Experience in conducting risk assessments and developing control measures.
• Proficiency in safety management software and reporting tools.
• Must be willing to travel to operational sites and potentially work a hybrid schedule from Benoni, Gauteng .
• Experience within the Benoni, Gauteng area is highly regarded.
