Qualifications

About the Role

Our client is seeking a vigilant and proactive Health and Safety Officer to join their remote team, supporting various mining operations across South Africa. This role is essential for ensuring a safe working environment by developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety protocols. You will conduct risk assessments, deliver training, and investigate incidents to uphold the highest standards of occupational health and safety. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of OHS legislation, a passion for safety culture, and the ability to effectively manage safety compliance remotely, contributing to the well-being of all personnel involved in mining activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive Health and Safety management systems and procedures.
• Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
• Investigate all health and safety incidents, near misses, and accidents, recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver engaging health and safety training programs to employees and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national OHS legislation and mining regulations.
• Maintain safety records, statistics, and generate regular safety performance reports.
• Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization through engagement and awareness campaigns.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
• Registered as a Safety Professional with a recognized body (e.g., SACPCMP).
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in occupational health and safety, preferably within the mining industry.
• In-depth knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and other relevant OHS legislation.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, suitable for a remote role.
