Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Hydrogeologist to lead groundwater investigations and model development for groundwater resource management in arid Northern Cape regions. The role emphasizes regulatory compliance and client-facing project delivery.

Ideal candidates will have 7+ years in hydrogeology, expertise with MODFLOW/FEFLOW, and experience mentoring junior staff while collaborating across geology, engineering, and environmental teams.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Hydrogeology, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in hydrogeology and groundwater resource management.
• Proven expertise in groundwater modeling software (e.g., MODFLOW, FEFLOW).
• Experience with geophysical survey interpretation and well hydraulics.
• Strong understanding of South African water legislation and regulatory frameworks.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
• Proficiency in report writing and technical communication.
• Experience managing projects and client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed hydrogeological assessments, including site investigations, borehole drilling supervision, and aquifer testing.
• Develop and calibrate groundwater flow and contaminant transport models using industry-standard software.
• Assess groundwater availability, quality, and recharge rates for water resource planning.
• Design and implement groundwater monitoring programs.
• Provide technical input on water resource management plans, impact assessments, and water use licenses.
• Advise clients on groundwater abstraction, protection zones, and remediation strategies.
• Supervise junior hydrogeologists and technical staff.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports, proposals, and presentations.
• Collaborate with geologists, engineers, and environmental scientists on multidisciplinary projects.
• Stay current with advancements in hydrogeological techniques and relevant regulations.
