Job summary
NamWater seeks a Hydrogeological Modeling Specialist in Upington to develop, calibrate, and manage complex groundwater flow and solute transport models. You will predict groundwater availability and assess extraction and recharge impacts, contributing to large-scale environmental protection projects.
The role emphasizes data-driven decisions, collaboration with engineers, and leading modeling efforts within a dedicated research division.
Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in Hydrogeology, Water Resources Engineering, or a closely related Earth Science discipline is required.
- PhD is highly advantageous for this role.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain sophisticated 3D groundwater flow models using industry-standard software.
- Analyze borehole data and geochemical signatures to interpret aquifer characteristics.
- Conduct sensitivity analyses to predict climate-change impacts on local water tables.
- Collaborate with civil engineers to design sustainable groundwater extraction infrastructure.
- Prepare technical reports for regulatory bodies regarding water usage and environmental impact.
- Monitor aquifer health through real-time sensor data and historical trends.
