Job summary

ACCIONA Energía in Cape Town is seeking a Senior Grid interconnection engineer to lead congestion analysis, grid studies, and energization planning for renewable projects in South Africa. You will oversee consultants, review Eskom documentation, and ensure adherence to local grid codes.

The role requires close collaboration with engineering, planning, and procurement, plus regular travel within South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.

Qualifications

• BSc in Electrical Engineering; PrEng registration with ECSA is required.
• Proficient with Power Factory; PSCAD experience essential.
• Excellent knowledge of SA Grid Codes and sub-Saharan regulations.
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Willingness to travel across South Africa and SSA.

Responsibilities

• Develop technical specs for congestion analyses due to evacuation limits.
• Manage power system consultants; oversee congestion analysis studies.
• Review Eskom documents (Cost Estimation Letters, Budget Quotes).
• Analyze SA Grid Code to identify risks and necessary developments.
• Ensure energization and COD within project timelines.
• Assist in designing inverters, wind turbines, and connection equipment for grid compliance.
• Negotiate with suppliers; review OEM models (PSCAD/PowerFactory).
• Coordinate with departments to ensure grid connection and COD.
