Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer for our client in Rustenburg, North West. The role focuses on assessing ground conditions and providing foundation design recommendations for offshore structures and platforms.

You will analyze complex geological data, perform advanced geotechnical modeling, and mentor junior engineers while coordinating with structural and naval teams.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related field.
• 8+ years of progressive offshore geotechnical experience.
• Deep knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering.
• Proficient with PLAXIS, ABAQUS and GeoStudio.
• Experience with seismic design for offshore structures.
• Familiar with offshore site investigations and equipment.
• Knowledge of API, ISO and DNV standards.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to lead projects and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations: planning, execution, and interpretation.
• Analyze soil and rock properties from lab and in-situ data.
• Perform numerical modeling for foundation design (e.g., FEA).
• Provide design recommendations for offshore foundations (piled, gravity, floating anchors).
• Assess seabed stability and geohazards.
• Develop geotechnical reports, specs, proposals.
• Collaborate with structural engineers and other disciplines.
• Review submittals, design changes, construction methods.
• Mentor junior geotechnical engineers and stay current with advancements.
