Placements24 seeks a Geotechnical Engineer for Mossel Bay to lead field investigations, soil/rock analyses, and slope stability assessments. The role includes designing recommendations for foundations and earthworks, and preparing detailed reports for high-profile projects along the Western Cape coast.

You’ll use GeoStudio/Plaxis, perform lab tests, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. A strong report-writing ability and willingness to travel are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering is required.
• Master's degree is preferred.
• Minimum 6 years of geotechnical engineering experience with field investigations and analysis.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, Plaxis, or similar tools.
• Experience with field investigation techniques and laboratory testing procedures.
• Strong report writing and technical communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and supervise field investigations (boreholes, pits, CPTs, geophysical surveys).
• Perform laboratory testing of soil and rock samples and interpret results.
• Analyze geotechnical data for soil/rock properties, groundwater, and seismic hazards.
• Conduct stability analyses for slopes, pits, tunnels, and foundations.
• Develop geotechnical design recommendations for structures and earthworks.
• Prepare investigation reports with interpretations and recommendations.
• Liaise with clients, project managers and other disciplines to meet requirements.
• Ensure compliance with geotechnical codes and best practices.
• Provide technical support during construction and safety procedures.
