Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a senior Geotechnical Engineer to join a Randburg-based consultancy. You will lead investigations, design foundations (shallow to piles/rafts), and provide geotechnical reports ensuring compliance and safety.

The role blends fieldwork, lab interpretation, and office design work, requiring strong soil/rock mechanics knowledge, GIS familiarity, and collaboration with structural teams across diverse projects in Randburg and surrounding areas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical specialization.
• Master's degree highly preferred.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr. Eng. or Pr. Tech. Eng.).
• Minimum 7 years of geotechnical investigation and foundation design experience.
• Proficiency in PLAXIS, GEO5, or similar tools.
• Strong knowledge of soil and rock mechanics; field and lab methods.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel to project sites within Randburg and surroundings.

Responsibilities

• Plan and manage site investigations (drilling, sampling, testing).
• Analyze soil/rock data to assess conditions and risks.
• Design foundations (shallow, piles, rafts) for various structures.
• Perform stability analyses for slopes, excavations, and embankments.
• Develop geotechnical reports with findings and recommendations.
• Provide technical support during construction, including inspections.
• Collaborate with structural engineers and project teams.
• Prepare tender documents and geotechnical specifications.
• Stay updated with advances in geotechnical engineering and software.
