Qualifications

• Proficient with Petrel, Kingdom Suite or GeoGraphix for geological modeling.
• Familiarity with data analysis and uncertainty assessment for resource estimation.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and meeting timelines.
• Offshore South African basins experience is advantageous.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent exploration company within the Oil & Gas sector, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Geologist to join their team. This position is based in the scenic coastal city of Mossel Bay, Western Cape. The Senior Geologist will be instrumental in exploring new prospects, evaluating hydrocarbon potential, and contributing to resource estimation for existing and future projects. You will work with a diverse range of geological and geophysical data to build subsurface models and provide critical insights for exploration strategies. This role demands extensive knowledge of geological principles, sedimentary basins, and exploration techniques, particularly within marine environments. The position is on-site to facilitate direct collaboration with the exploration and operations teams in Mossel Bay, Western Cape.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret geological data, including seismic, well logs, core samples, and outcrop data, to understand subsurface geology.
• Identify and evaluate potential hydrocarbon plays and prospects.
• Develop and refine geological models for exploration and development projects.
• Integrate geological data with engineering and geophysical information for comprehensive prospect assessment.
• Estimate hydrocarbon resources and reserves using industry-standard methodologies.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geology, Geoscience, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in geological exploration, with a focus on the Oil & Gas industry.
• Proven expertise in seismic interpretation, well log analysis, and stratigraphic correlation.
• Strong understanding of structural geology, sedimentology, and petroleum systems.
• Experience with geological modeling software ("e.g., Petrel, Kingdom Suite, GeoGraphix.").
• Familiarity with data analysis and uncertainty assessment techniques for resource estimation.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
• Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and manage project timelines.
• Previous experience working in offshore South African basins is highly advantageous.
