Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly experienced Senior Legal Officer for our client in the renewable energy sector, based in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. The role requires the candidate to be physically present at the office and focuses on energy law, project development, and regulatory compliance.

You will lead complex contract work, advise on permits and licenses, manage due diligence, and support strategic business objectives while liaising with external counsel and regulators.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney with at least 10 years post-qualification experience in energy, infrastructure, or project finance.
• Proven expertise drafting and negotiating complex energy contracts.
• Strong knowledge of SA energy, environmental, and property law; able to manage deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on energy projects and PPAs, EPCs, and land acquisitions.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts in the energy sector.
• Ensure compliance with SA energy regulations and environmental law.
• Manage legal aspects of project development from inception to operation.
• Conduct due diligence for new projects and investments.
• Advise on permits, licenses, and regulatory applications.
• Support dispute resolution and litigation on contract matters.
• Monitor legislative changes affecting energy sector.
• Liaise with external counsel and government agencies.
• Contribute to legal strategy and policy development.
