Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel for our client in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. The role centers on energy project development, construction, financing, and operation of renewable energy infrastructure.

You will draft and negotiate project agreements, manage regulatory compliance, and provide strategic legal support to accelerate project delivery. A strong background in project finance or energy law is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years post-qualification experience in energy, infrastructure, or project finance law.
• Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex commercial contracts in the energy sector.
• Strong understanding of SA energy regulations, environmental law, and public procurement.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice across energy project development, permitting, and regulatory approvals.
• Draft, review, and negotiate PPAs, EPC, and O&M agreements.
• Advise on project financing arrangements, including debt and equity financing.
• Ensure compliance with national and provincial energy regulations and environmental laws.
• Manage contract issues and disputes; conduct due diligence on projects and partners.
• Liaise with government authorities, regulators, and external counsel.
