Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Technician for a major mining conglomerate in Randburg, Gauteng. The role focuses on maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems within a mining setting to ensure reliability and safety.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years post-qualification experience as an Electrician, with 3+ years in a senior capacity, and extensive hands-on work with LV/MV systems, PLCs, and heavy equipment. Relocation to Randburg area is preferred for onsite work.

Qualifications

• Trade Certificate (Electrician) or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• At least 5 years post-qualification experience as an Electrician, with 3+ years in senior mining/heavy industrial environment.
• Experience with underground or surface mining electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret complex electrical drawings and schematics.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled electrical maintenance, installation, and repair on mining equipment.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical faults in low/medium voltage systems, motors, control panels.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on electrical equipment.
• Install and commission new electrical equipment and systems per specifications and safety standards.
• Interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams to guide work activities.
• Adhere to safety regulations, lockout/tagout procedures and company policies.
• Maintain electrical maintenance records and reports.
• Provide technical guidance to junior technicians and artisans.
• Participate in continuous improvement of maintenance practices.
• Respond to electrical emergencies and breakdowns as required.

About the Role

Our client, a major mining conglomerate with operations across South Africa, is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Technician to join their team in Randburg, Gauteng. This role is essential for the maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems and equipment within the mining environment, ensuring operational continuity and safety. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with heavy-duty electrical equipment, control systems, and troubleshooting in demanding conditions. You will play a key role in ensuring the reliability of electrical infrastructure that supports critical mining operations. Key Responsibilities

• Perform skilled electrical maintenance, installation, and repair on a wide range of mining equipment, including crushers, conveyors, pumps, ventilation systems, and haulage equipment.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical faults in low and medium voltage systems, motors, control panels, and associated circuitry.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on electrical equipment to ensure optimal performance and prevent failures.
• Install and commission new electrical equipment and systems according to specifications and safety standards.
• Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to guide work activities.
• Ensure strict adherence to all safety regulations, including lockout/tagout procedures and company safety policies.
• Assist in the maintenance and updating of electrical maintenance records and reports.
• Provide technical support and guidance to junior technicians and artisans.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for electrical maintenance practices.
• Respond to electrical emergencies and breakdowns as required.

Requirements

• Trade Certificate (Electrician) or National Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience as an Electrician, with at least 3 years in a senior capacity within a mining or heavy industrial environment.
• Proven experience with electrical systems in underground or surface mining operations.
• Strong knowledge of low and medium voltage electrical systems, motor control, VSDs, and PLCs.
• Ability to read and interpret complex electrical drawings and schematics.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills and a systematic approach to problem-solving.
• Working knowledge of safety regulations applicable to mining electrical installations.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to work shifts and respond to call-outs as needed.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to the Randburg, Gauteng region.
