Placements24 is seeking an electrical engineer to support on-site operations in Soweto, focusing on mining electrical infrastructure and equipment. You will ensure safe, reliable operation of power distribution, heavy machinery, and control systems within a demanding mining environment.

The ideal candidate has a degree or diploma in electrical engineering and at least four years’ experience in mining or heavy industry, with strong PLC, HV/MV distribution knowledge and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or ND in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 4 years in electrical engineering, mining or heavy industrial preferred.
• Strong knowledge of HV/MV distribution, motor controls, and PLCs.
• Familiar with mining safety regulations and electrical codes.

Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical equipment and systems in a mining environment.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations including Mine Health and Safety Act and electrical standards.
• Troubleshoot faults on heavy mining machinery, conveyors, and processing plant equipment.
• Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments of electrical installations and equipment.
• Develop preventive maintenance schedules for critical electrical assets.
• Assist in planning and execution of electrical infrastructure upgrades and capital projects.
• Supervise and provide technical guidance to electricians and technicians.
• Maintain records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and safety compliance.
• Collaborate with production and engineering teams to minimize electrical downtime.
• Stay updated on mining-specific electrical technologies and safety practices.

About the Role

Our client, a major player in the mining industry, is seeking a competent and diligent Electrical Engineer to support their operations in Soweto . This is a critical on-site role focused on the electrical infrastructure and equipment within the mining environment. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all electrical systems, including power distribution, heavy machinery, and control systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mining electrical requirements, safety regulations (e.g., Mine Health and Safety Act), and a proven ability to troubleshoot and maintain complex electrical equipment in challenging conditions. This position requires a hands-on approach and a commitment to maintaining high operational standards. Your contributions will be vital to the continuous productivity and safety of the mine site.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of mining electrical systems, including high voltage (HV) and medium voltage (MV) distribution, motor controls, and PLCs.
• Familiarity with relevant mining safety regulations and electrical codes.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair complex electrical issues in a demanding environment.
• Experience with heavy mining equipment (e.g., crushers, mills, haul trucks) is advantageous.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic skills.
• Strong leadership, communication, and team management abilities.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and in challenging site conditions.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to work on-site.
