Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 7+ years in heavy industrial/mining electrical maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, motor controls, PLCs, VSDs.
• Experience diagnosing faults in large mobile equipment and fixed plant.
• Pr Eng/ECSA desirable; willingness to work on-site near Soweto, Gauteng.

Responsibilities

• Oversee electrical maintenance and repair of mining equipment (excavators, haul trucks, crushers, conveyors).
• Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance programs for electrical systems.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose complex electrical faults in heavy machinery and plant equipment.
• Design, install, and commission electrical modifications to improve performance and reliability.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations and company policies.
• Manage electrical spare parts inventory and procurement strategies.
• Liaise with manufacturers and service providers for technical support and warranty claims.
• Mentor junior technicians and maintenance staff.
• Analyze equipment performance data and identify optimization opportunities.
• Participate in root-cause analysis investigations for electrical failures.

About the Role

Our client, a key player in the mining industry, is seeking a highly qualified Senior Electrical Engineer to join their technical team supporting mining equipment operations near Soweto, Gauteng. This role focuses on the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of electrical systems and components within heavy mining machinery and processing plants. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of electrical equipment, implementing preventative maintenance strategies, and leading diagnostic efforts for complex electrical faults. The Senior Electrical Engineer will work closely with maintenance teams, operations personnel, and external suppliers to maintain high standards of equipment uptime and safety. Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a significant focus on heavy industrial or mining equipment maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, motor controls, PLCs, VSDs, and instrumentation used in mining applications.
• Proven experience in troubleshooting and repairing electrical faults in large mobile equipment and fixed plant machinery.
• Proficiency with electrical diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
• Understanding of electrical safety principles and regulations (e.g., GMR 2, OHSA).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
• Registered professional engineer (Pr Eng) with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Willingness to work on-site near Soweto, Gauteng, and potentially respond to emergency call-outs.
