About the Role

Our client, a major player in the mining sector, is seeking a dedicated Senior Electrical Maintenance Engineer for their operations in Bloemfontein . This role is vital for ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of all electrical systems and equipment within the mining operation. You will be responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing preventive and corrective maintenance programs, as well as managing a team of electrical technicians. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in heavy industrial electrical maintenance, including high voltage systems, motor controls, and instrumentation, preferably within a mining or similar heavy industry environment. This is a critical, on‑site position based in Bloemfontein .

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement comprehensive electrical maintenance strategies, including preventive and predictive maintenance programs. Oversee the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all electrical equipment, including high voltage switchgear, transformers, motors, VFDs, and control systems. Manage a team of electrical maintenance technicians, providing technical guidance, training, and performance management. Ensure all electrical installations and maintenance activities comply with safety regulations, company standards, and legal requirements. Conduct root cause analysis of electrical failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Manage spare parts inventory for electrical components and equipment. Participate in the commissioning of new electrical equipment and systems. Develop and manage the electrical maintenance budget. Collaborate with production and engineering departments to minimize downtime and optimize electrical system performance. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, equipment history, and inspections.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical maintenance, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or senior role. Proven experience with high voltage (HV) and medium voltage (MV) systems, substations, and distribution networks. Strong knowledge of industrial motor controls, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Experience in the mining or heavy industrial sector is highly preferred. Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical drawings. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with relevant safety standards and regulations (e.g., OHS Act, Mine Health and Safety Act). Registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) with ECSA is an advantage.
